The story
In 2024,decision was made by Hu to bring his design ambition back to where he was raised up - Tangshan. A heroical industrial city in northeast of Hebei，China.
The city was one of the frontier industrial center in the nation since 1870s industrialization. As an international well-known city in 19th and 20th century, Tangshan was pioneering in various of industries such as cement,coal mining,railway and locomotive,metal smelting etc.
In 1976, home was razed to the ground by tragic earthquake. Even though the city still paid out tramendous contribution on Chinese rebuild after World War Ⅱ until today.
As an industrial designer grew up in a city with full of craftsmanship and economizing, Hu is deeply inspired by his childhood life. Re-build and Utility were always in his blood throughout his design career. Extending the heritage of home city into product design sure has become one of the principles at Raw Stuff.
屈 庄 1970s
This is the warehoues of Qu Zhuang in 2024. Where we started the journey in a foggy winter. This area was one of the biggest porcelain manufacture fatories in the city of Tang Shan back in 1970s.
On July 28th 1976, the city was awaked by a mega earthquake in the early morning. Over 300,000 death and the entire city was destroied into debris. These factories was the first-built constructions during the rebuild.
Hu decided to rooted the workshop here to continue this “Rebuild” culture from design perspective and celebrate the pragmatic custom by creating beautiful modern products.
